View Full Version : Lattice Concept to develop true Global strategy

One thing I have always disliked is the lack of a true front line in PS. The current style of lattice is too easy to jump around making the fights really only mean anything to the continent that its on.

Concept : All facilities must have a link back to the empire home base.

How its works :
- In order to hack a base you must be able to trace your links all the way back to you home base.
- If your link is cut, all bases that have been cut will go on a timer (say 30min), after the timer expires the bases will dropped from the empire rematrixing network rendering spawns/terminals/vehical building disabled.
- Once link is restored (Doesnt have to be the same link, a new link via a different path will work) the bases return to normal.

Why IMHO this is a good concept :
- Force the empire leaders to think on a global basis.
- True strategic manuvers to cut a force off from its home base.
- Zerg style play can be countered with actual strategy by cutting their supply lines.
- Removes the constant circle hack aound a cont stalemates that lasts for days in PS
- Well organized spec ops teams can have a global impact.
- IMHO True Front lines will develop

Notes :
- Base hacks will have to somehow be a team effort to stop lone ranger players from disrupting an entire empire.
- Blow generators (if we have them) should not effect the links.

Just an idea, keep it constructive please, we are all working together, no need for flames.

if blowing a generator does not break the "link", and you must have a link to take a base, how do you break a link?

We've proposed elsewhere that links provide logistcal bonuses more than "who can hack where". A non-linked base would take 30 minutes or so to hack, while a multi-linked base would take no less than 10 minutes. Take a look at our Progressive Hacking (http://www.markovforums.com/SMF/index.php?topic=2463.0) discussion for more background and details.

This system would work well for your idea. Instead of Skill Level 2+ (Tech) vehicles requiring some sort of on continent benefit, as long as your links can trace back to your "home" you have your toys at every base. Sever that link, and all links after that are then compromised.

Now... Here's some issues that I can see off the top of my head.

* Population limits will make players loathe to leave large battles for a small engagement.
* Frontlines are still only relative to a particular continent, while off continent conflict would now directly impact the main battle.
* Specifically outline each non-facility based game mechanic that could be effected by a severed supply line. Is it only vehicle access? (Note: facility ownership does not affect vehicle acces. there are no "tech plants". facilities affect cost and respawn timers only)
