View Full Version : Mobile vehicular spawnpoint...

Right, our system (at this point) is tending towards placing a players consciousness into a new body after death. This provides some plot/continuity problems for a mobile spawnpoint, however, I think a dose of humor, a little bit of work and some creativity have given me an amusing but practical solution to such a problem. As such, here is the description for the function of such a vehicle in our universe:

Names: Vulture? :P (feel free to volunteer more)
Functional name: Mobile cadaver recovery, assembly and recycling station.
Usage: Since we're working in a world where we need bodies for respawning, the mobile spawn system must collect cadavers (friendly or enemy) by running them over (it may not need to literally be 1 cadaver = 1 spawn, have a status bar like that of an ANT, it shouldn't require so many cadavers that this is absolutely hell to make functional. This also requires cadavers in some logical form remain on the battlefield (even if we stuff them into a goddamn body bag)) After harvesting bodies to fill the bar up at least some if not completely, the spawnpoint automagically re-assembles bodies and then rolls them out of doors on the side (my artistic skills are horrible but I may none the less have to provide a rough sketch to relate this) where they hang from overhead bars (picturing 3 on each side of the vehicle at a time, possibly.)

The kicker, the cadavers will NOT be your original avatar. They may not even be entirely of your empire. They may not even be entirely uniform in gender! (perhaps you should even have to pre-select an armor at a mobile spawn so parts with appropriate armor may be assembled.) End result is an amusing frankenplayer (the proportion of male/female/faction parts in the randomizer are based on the proportions you harvest.)

*chuckles at the sight*

Problems in function:
- What happens when the fight is all indoors for a long period of time? Perhaps players can be allowed to somehow backbuild more than a single vehicle carries in some sort of pool and just spawn vehicles with a bar status based on what's available in the pool. Set the balance of cadavers-to-spawns as such that you can do some farming during the outdoor fights and keep them functional during indoor fights. Could also make it possible for people to drag a cadaver to the spawn point and deposit it for an EXP reward. This could also be done in bases to build up a pool that anyone pulling a mobile spawnpoint can get part of...) Easiest just might be able to say the base spots them the first partial fill from their own stockpile (might not result in the appropriate body, but it will be a friendly body) but requires some work to max it out.
- However it goes, it loses value if it passes from comical/amusing to mundane/boring.

Ideas? Thoughts? Hate?

Personally I hate the idea of switching bodies all the time. If we are going to take the time for character design (which I though I read somewhere) I would like to keep it. Somehow I would feel detached if I didn't log in to "me".

I say we go with an AMS. Maybe ditch the cloak bubble and change it with something else. I will have to think of it more.

You'll login as you. Just only when you spawn at a friendly facility where you have the luxury of choice. Hell, you may never even see yourself outside of a selection screen if we don't have a third person camera (which hasn't been discussed yet.)

As head princess and master of the plot, magically placing people in bodies you don't have is a continuity quagmire (-5 movement)!

I think that honestly having to get bodies and then looking different would be a minus and not a plus. Too tired to think of an alternate idea ATM.

No sense of humor...

The only apparent alternative solutions seem to be:
1. arbitrary - "it just works" or "because we say so"
2. a rather large spawn vehicle, just say there's a large number of bodies (enough so that everyone gets their choice) lolling around inside waiting for a consciousness.

The idea made me chuckle, but I'm not sure how well it'd work.
