View Full Version : A purpose for Bases

This has been brought up already, I think, but wouldn't it be nice if the bases/outposts/whatever were actually at a certain location for a reason? I mean, an AMP station is nice and all, but what is it protecting?
So, if you're going to build a base, shouldn't it be defending something? A pass, a mine, an industrial complex, an agricultural complex, spaceport, etc... should be near a base or under it or something, I think... And benefits derive from said defended complex/structure, and the relative state of repair (i.e. you could go collapse the mine/shore it up if you wanted to).
Just throwing this out...

Now that's a brilliant idea. I can't believe I hadn't thought of it.
Rather than plonking randomn bases in randomn places, let's actually try to make it sensible.
Perhaps we can design the terrain to include chokepoints, basins, cliffs etc. Then we can put/make appropriate bases for those locations.
We would still need to have some bases in the middle of nowhere, just to fill up some empty spots, but this could make it all the more interesting.

IIRC Zotz is the SE bio on Hossin right? That tower actually makes sense as far as if you own it you own Zotz. Of course the base is in kinda a dumb loc being in the hole but the canyon fight (if it develops) is sweet shit.

Terrain in general needs to be more intelligent. One thing I *REALLY* wanted out of PS was some geographically limited fights, as far as to what you could bring. Bases on a plateau that is above flight ceiling but having infantry foot-trails up to it. Island bases that prevent land vehicles and infantry from showing up without transports. Bases under flight ceiling but at the top of a practically unclimbable mountain requiring aircraft and air-transport to take. Of course, bases will be semi-smart in locational design and what they can build. There's no sense in a geographically limited base building something of no use there (all but support vehicles and aircraft at the mountaintop base, etc.)
But yes, bases for holding resources, and bases for holding territory. Bases for holding resources do whatever they have to to be close enough to defend the resource. Bases for holding territory pick the most favorable terrain around and setup shop.
