These are screenshots of a terrain/sky combo I whipped up to test some of the new features of the Phase 2 terrain engine.

Note the FPS.* This is a view distance of 4 KILOMETERS.* Also, this is on a server with zero activity beyond my avatar, so this is pure speed of rendering without any kind of network processing going on. 99% of FPS in the world only use a view distance of 1km, but I wanted to really test the efficency of the Atlas engine.

FYI my machine is pretty middle of the road.* XP3200+, 1GB DDR RAM, Nvidia 6800 GT OC.

I'll be posting some screenshots of the Phase 1 engine in a few hours.

This is just to give you a taste at what the technology I've been talking about actually looks like.

Atlas Engine (http://www.google.com/search?q=Atlas+Engine&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official)???

That definitely looks pretty sweet. Atlas is part of the Torque Shader Engine, if I'm not mistaken? I looked it up before, and it has some really interesting features. The more I look into the Torque engine, the more excited -- and conviced about the completion -- of the project I get. All we need is a design document, and some talented modelers/animators/coders/etc/etc, and we can hopefully get some iterative design going from there :)

Phase 1 is TGE, Phase 2 is TSE.

The reason we aren't going to TSE off the bat is because the technology isn't very mature. A few more months and it should be ready for primetime.

Portability between P1 and P2 is amost a no-brainer. The scripting language is almost exactly the same except for changes to incorporate shaders and the Atlas terrain engine.

It's good shit... and when we switch from P1 to P2 the difference in performance and looks will be like night and day.
