I'm bored...so I decided to try my hand at some Lightning Varients..

The Empire Specific Lightnings will, obviously, have more armor than the standard Lightning and will come with 2 guns, 1 for Infantry & Aircraft and one for Vehicles (like the Lightning...basically).

These varients will also require a Tech Plant to use.

Anyways....

VS Nova

Armor - 1500
Speed - 80 KPH

The Nova is the staple Light Tank of the Vanu Sovereignty.* Equipped with a single Particle Singularity Cannon for defense against Vehicles and a single Quasar Cannon for defense against Infantry.

The Particle Singularity Cannon fires beams of pure energy with no arc, allowing this tank to hit targets at a distance with ease, doing moderate damage to Vehicles and Aircraft, and light damage to Infantry.

The Quasar Cannon utilizes rapid firing energy beams to take down Infantry and low-flying Aircraft, doing moderate damage to both.

The Nova has also been outfitted with advanced Vanu hover technology, enabling this tank to effectively "drive" over water.

NC Paladin

Armor - 1700
Speed - 70 KPH

The New Conglomerate's Light Tank.* The NC Paladin is outfitted with a Medium Gauss Cannon for attacking Vehicles and a Magnetic Pulse Driver for dealing with Infantry and Aircraft.

The Medium Gauss Cannon is a weaker variation of NC Thunderer's Heavy Gauss Cannon.* Unlike the Heavy Gauss Cannon, the Medium Gauss Cannon only does moderate damage to Vehicle & Aircraft while only doing light damage to Infantry.

The Magnetic Pulse Driver is a new addition to the New Conglomerate Vehicular Arsenal.* The Magnetic Pulse Driver utilizes an advanced Magnetic Delivery System, allowing this weapon to fire out rounds with an average speed and accuracy & with decent power against Infantry & Aircraft, the Magnetic Pulse Driver is the prime choice for taking out Infantry and* Aircraft.

TR Sidewinder

Armor - 1600
Speed - 75 KPH

The Light Tank of the Terran Republic.* The Sidewinder comes equipped with a 90mm Cannon, with straight firing capabilities, for dealing with Vehicles and a standard 15mm Rotary Chaingun for attacking Infantry & Aircraft.

The 90mm Cannon is a newly developed weapon of the Terran Republic.* Efforts to create a straight firing variation of the 100mm Cannons that are mounted on the Prowler resulted in the creation of the 90mm Cannon.* While the 90mm is indeed weaker than 100mm, it's straight firing capability and decent armor damage output makes it a good choice against Vehicles.

The standard issue 15mm Rotary Chaingun, which was developed for the Raider & later mounted on the Prowler (replacing the 12mm Rotary Chainguns), has been outfitted on this vehicle.* This gives the Sidewinder decent Infantry and Aircraft defense.

I think they're ok.....but even if they're not...at least the names kick ass ;D

Israel you're thinking too Planetsidey IMO, branch out to more generalistic ideas/ones relating to some of the plot ideas posted. Ever hear of BF2 being called Desert Combat 2? I(we?) don't want that.

Hey...I'm having a moment here..so back off :P

Besides....I posted these ideas about a year ago as well...so yeah.

They can easily be changed to fit this new game cog is making.* Since the game is gonna be like planetside (I assume all 3 sides are gonna be like the TR, VS, and NC anyways..) you can basically change these from Lightning Varients to Empire Specific Light Tanks (as they're called in the descriptions).

The Weapon systems can stay the same.....just pretend I don't mention Prowler and Thunderer....and poof....good ideas for light tanks...

Besides, I don't feel like editing the post right now

I agree with both of you, oddly.

EVERY vehicle in the game needs to be ES. Seriously, that common pool crap of PS always bugged me, it made no sense. The VS have Beam tech, yet their basic (and common handout) tank is based on "antiquated" tech? WTF? Strap a fucking Lancer to it instead of the 75mm.

All the vehicles should have weaponry, armor, and agility similar to that empire.

As for the Weaponry, while Israel did a good job of explaining a PS change, we need to decide/figure out our empires and their respective tech styles first before really going into it.

There's a very good reason why everything wasn't Empire-specific, as fewer models, less coding, and less balancing translated into money and time saved... (not like it did them any fucking good regardless)

If the devs for the new game choose to make everything ES, then they're going to have to deal with that reality.

Yeah, it does involve more work, but makes the game that much more interesting too... I mean, the same tech on 3 empires? That was always retarded to me.

Not even in modern society do the countries all use the same tech... They all tweak it out with (what they think) the latest and greatest gadgets are.

Something that always struck me slightly odd about this game was the lack of rocket propelled artillary on ground vehicles.

There's an ATV and a buggy with them, and BFR varients, and nothing in between. Every other "mode" (Soldier, max, flight) has some sort of varient of that.

What about making tanks a little more like BFRs in the equipment area? I don't think an AA tank would be that unbalanced. Not perhaps the most popular choice, but customizablity would cut down on the technical requirements. One tank "body" (Or three, one per side) with a fairly large array of possible weapons to equip them with.

Now I quite like that idea.

Depending on the ability to have 'favourites' set up. Not sure what limitations having large amounts of loadouts saved for infantry and vehicles. There'd have to be more available than PS currently.

Unless we use a different system of pulling vehicles, like while you are in the queue you can set it all up the way you want maybe?

Tanks with hard points, very nice... Possibly with a second hard point for the alternate mode weapon?

Must emphasize this emphatically though, 1 crew is good for LBTs, 2 for MBTs, and 2-3 for HBTs, all across the board, thus you have Prowler mounted with 100mms, AV Rockets, both fired by gunner.
